I have been a Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreo-retinal Surgeon at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in 2003. I was Clinical Director of the Ophthalmology Department in 2012-2015.
I graduated from Aberbeen University Medical School in 1992 and then spent seven years in specialist surgical training at the world famous Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. I also had further subspecialist training in retinal and macular diseases. I have extensive experience in routine and complex retinal and cataract surgery.
In addition to a busy clinical practice, I am also actively involved in innovative research, training ophthalmologists and auditing surgical results.

I am well published in peer-reviewed journals on a wide range of ophthalmology topics. I am also active in research and am currently a Principal Investigator in a macular degeneration study using radiation and new anti-VEGF drugs as a treatment modality.

Personal profile
In my spare time I enjoy tennis, cycling and snowboarding. I have three boys who keep me busy and active. My current spare time endeavour is to learn to play the violin.
