Pink Ribbon Post Rehab; Scar Therapy Trained
I qualified in 1994 from Leeds University with a degree in physiotherapy. In 1996, I trained in Woman’s Health physiotherapy and achieved an advanced certificate in the treatment of the pelvic floor. I am an active member of the Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy special interest group.
I have worked at Spire Harpenden since 2001 and am an experienced Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, running training sessions for GP’s and other allied health professionals. I have a particular interest in bladder and bowel care.
I cover all areas of Pelvic health, including post-operative breast and gynaecological surgery, pregnancy related musculoskeletal conditions and abdominal separation (Diastasis Rectus abdominis), vulval pain (vulvodynia), all kinds of bladder and bowel dysfunction (including rectal irrigation), pre and post operative prostate and pelvic floor disorders.
I work closely with specialist consultants in my field and regularly attend multi-disciplinary meetings and spend time in the operating theatre and consultant clinics. I run a urodynamic testing service, and I am currently developing a vaginal pessary fitting service.
I keep up to date with best clinical practice with regular training courses and clinical peer review work with the local NHS hospitals.
Over the past 25 years I have gained a wealth of hands-on experience; including working in a trauma unit in Minneapolis USA, managing a consultant lead pain management team and teaching ante and post-natal classes.
After I qualified, I worked for Northampton Saints Rugby Club while working towards a certificate in orthopaedic medicine and a post graduate diploma in Sports physiotherapy. I was a clinical educator at the University of Hertfordshire until 2001 and have also worked extensively in hydrotherapy and post-operative rehabilitation.
